A recurring theme in my practice is the appropriation and augmentation of existing objects. I like to play with people’s ideas of what they are and what they could become after a technological intervention. For this piece I designed a ping pong table featuring 4000 RGB LEDS under frosted polycarbonate. Each bounce triggers audiovisual effects programmed in code. It was named after a passive aggressive note left in my shared studio space to stop people leaving things on it and as a nod to Rene Magritte. Kindly funded by NI Arts Council’s Supporting the Individual Artist Programme and with support from Belfast Fablab, Farset Labs and PSSquared Gallery. It was first publicly displayed at BBC NI’s 2015 ‘make it digital‘ outreach event.
